| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, October 17th, 2000: Sheperd Blasts 3 into Bleachers Every now and then, the right things happen at the right time. Curt Sheperd discovered that when he smashed three homers at Nebraska Stadium during today's 7-2 win over the Pennsylvania Freedom.
The Nebraska right fielder said in the postgame interview, "I got three balls to hit and nailed all three of them. The first was a hanging curve, the second was right down the middle and the last one was a good pitch, but I guessed right and put the wood to it."
Sheperd finished the day with 3 hits in 3 at-bats and 3 RBIs.
C. Sheperd hit a solo-shot off J. Baker in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off J. Baker in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off J. Baker in the 6th and walked in the 7th.
Sheperd is batting .296 in 2000 with 29 home runs, 112 RBIs and 110 runs scored. He has 163 hits in 550 at-bats. |  | Tuesday, October 17th, 2000: Nebraska Sweeps National Championship Series The Kernels rolled over Pennsylvania 7-2 at Nebraska Stadium to easily win the 2000 National Championship Series crown.
Nebraska won in a walk and swept the series from the Freedom 4-0. It was their 10th championship title.
The winning manager praised his own club as well as the opposition, "It wasn't as easy as it looked. We had to play good baseball to beat them. The Freedom are a fine team, but we always seemed to come up with the key hit at the right time and to make the the plays on defense when we had to. That's how you win the National Championship Series."
The Kernels took first place in the Frontier League Prairie Division and rounded out the year with a 100-62 record. |  | Sunday, September 24th, 2000: Tillman Socks it to Loggers, Cracks 5 Hits What a day for Artie Tillman of the Pennsylvania Freedom! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen every day! He ripped Maine pitching apart at Liberty Field and sparked the Freedom to a 7-6 victory. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing his special day 5 for 5.
"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Tillman told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."
A. Tillman singled in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off L. Burkett in the 6th, singled in the 8th, doubled in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off J. García in the 12th.
